Uni Life! - Natural Dyes

So I decide to try out dying some fabric with natural dyes. I looked online and found out Beetroot, Onion Skins and Saffron worked best. So I tried it out...

This is Beetroot Boiling to let all the colour come out.

This is the onion boiling.

After letting the beetroot and onion boil in pans for about 1 hour to 1 hour and a half. I took them out.

I then wet my silk, this lets the fabric take in the dyes better.

I then put the fabric (silk) into the different natural dyes. As you can see below and above.

I let these (above and below) soak in the beetroot and onion skin liquid for about 1 hour.

I then removed them from the beetroot and onion skin liquid and gave them a rinse (above and below).

Then I decided to try out the saffron.
Then I added the fabric into the saffron and left it to soak for 30 minutes.

Afterwards I took the silk out the liquid and gave it a rinse.

I then decided to warm up the saffron liquid to see if it made a difference I also added abit more saffron.

This is the silk in the boiled saffron.

Then I took it out and gave it a rinse.

Here are all the died silks drying.

I really enjoyed doing this and really like the outcome. I think I should have used fresh beetroot instead of pickled beetroot, I hope to try using fresh beetroot. Overall I enjoyed the process/ project.
